Samuel Ink is a contemporary artist celebrated for his evocative explorations of light, space, and minimalist texture. Ink's work invites viewers into a realm where the harsh Mediterranean sun and deep shadows intertwine. His pieces often feature stark, monochrome fields and weathered geometric forms, rendered in a style that blends radical abstraction with meticulous material detail. Through his art, Ink challenges us to reflect on our perceptions of silence, time, and the underlying essence of physical reality.
From 1976 to 1981, Ink studied painting and printmaking at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid and then at the Universitat de Barcelona. From 1988 to 2002, he was responsible for architectural color concepts and monumental wall paintings in public spaces across Catalonia—in collaboration with renowned architects, urban planners, and the visionary designer Javier Mariscal.
First steps
From 2003 to 2017, Samuel Ink worked from his large studio house in the rural landscape of Almería, exploring the impact of extreme natural light on canvas. In the meantime, he had guest studios at the Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca and the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, and in 2021 he was awarded the prestigious Velázquez Prize for Plastic Arts. Since 2022, Ink lives and works exclusively as a freelance master artist in Barcelona.

The work of Samuel Ink is characterized by a varied dialogue between heavy physical textures, geometric structure, and the absence of color. Silence and light are intertwined and give direction to the artist’s powerful associative formal language. His works are scenarios of emptiness and architectural memory. They look monumental and enigmatic.

The works of Samuel Ink are in public collections and rooms. These include the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona), the IVAM in Valencia, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Museum of Modern Art in Céret / France, and the collection of the Ministry of Culture in Madrid.
